Marloth Park

ABOUT

Marloth Park is a pristine wildlife sanctuary situated in the lowveld region of Mpumalanga. Located along the southern boundary of Kruger National Park, Marloth Park offers a unique blend of nature and adventure. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including four of the Big Five—buffalo, rhino, lion, and leopard—while elephants can often be seen along the Crocodile River, which forms the natural border between Marloth Park and Kruger National Park.

Nature Reserve

LIONSPRUIT

A specially designated game reserve within the park, known as Lions Spruit, serves as a secure habitat for larger predators and dangerous animals such as buffalo, rhinos, and lions. This controlled environment ensures safety for visitors while preserving the natural behavior of these species. In contrast, other wildlife—including kudu, leopard, zebra, giraffe, blue wildebeest, nyala, impala, and warthogs—roam freely throughout Marloth Park’s 1,500 hectares, often moving between residential units and natural bushland without restriction. Although lions are typically confined to Lions Spruit, occasional sightings of those crossing over from the Kruger National Park have been reported.

As potentially dangerous animals are largely contained within Lions Spruit, visitors can safely enjoy a range of outdoor activities. Walking trails along the Crocodile River offer breathtaking views and wildlife encounters, while mountain biking on the park’s network of dirt roads provides an adventurous way to explore the landscape. Birdwatchers will also find Marloth Park a paradise, with countless species inhabiting the region, making it an ideal destination for both amateur and experienced birders.

TOURISM

Why Choose Marloth Park Over Kruger National Park?
Marloth Park has become a favored destination for travelers who seek a more personalized and peaceful wildlife experience.

A Quieter Experience

One of Marloth Park’s greatest advantages over Kruger National Park is its relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Marloth Park remains peaceful and uncrowded, offering visitors a slower pace and a deeper connection with nature. Instead of being surrounded by tour groups and busy lodges, guests can enjoy uninterrupted moments of solitude while observing wildlife from their own patios or private viewing decks.

Close Wildlife Encounters in Their Natural Habitat

In Marloth Park, wildlife roams freely around properties, creating unforgettable close encounters. It’s common to see zebras grazing near your accommodation, giraffes browsing on treetops just outside your window, or warthogs meandering through open spaces. This unrestricted movement of animals offers guests the rare chance to experience wildlife interactions without the confines of a safari vehicle or scheduled tour. Occasionally, even predators from Kruger, such as lions, are spotted within the park boundaries, adding an extra layer of excitement to the experience.

Privacy and Luxury Accommodation Options

Another significant advantage of Marloth Park is the level of privacy it offers. Unlike the more communal lodging arrangements found in Kruger National Park, accommodations in Marloth Park consist of private lodges and secluded self-catering homes. These properties typically feature high-end amenities such as private swimming pools, outdoor entertainment areas, fully equipped kitchens, and braai (barbecue) facilities—offering guests the perfect blend of comfort and exclusivity.

The spacious layouts and private surroundings mean guests can relax without the disturbances common in the Kruger Park Camps, making Marloth Park ideal for honeymooners, families, or anyone seeking a peaceful retreat.

Safe and Flexible Exploration Opportunities

With larger predators largely confined to Marloth’s dedicated Lions Spruit game reserve, the park is considered safe for guests to explore on foot or by bicycle. You can walk along scenic trails near the Crocodile River or cycle through the park’s dirt roads, immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of nature. This level of freedom is rare in traditional safari destinations, where walking unsupervised can be dangerous due to free-roaming predators.

A Perfect Balance of Nature and Comfort

Marloth Park offers the best of both worlds: the thrill of a close-to-nature experience with the convenience of modern amenities. Whether you’re looking for a serene escape, an up-close wildlife adventure, or a luxurious getaway with complete privacy, Marloth Park stands out as a premier destination for those seeking an unforgettable safari experience without the crowds of Kruger National Park.
